Steppas Records are pleased to announce the release of “Get Up” by UK dubstep heavy-weights Goli and Ashburner. The newest record from the cult-indie label also includes remixes by world renowned dubstep musicians RSD (aka Rob Smith) and Alpha Steppa. Representing a move towards darker, deeper and heavier roots-based dubstep, “Get Up” demonstrates the best of UK dubstep at it’s most innovative.

 

Having spent much of 2010 and 2011 releasing on majors such as Chemical Records, Ministry of Sound and Clandestine Cultivations, Goli and Ashburner are now placed in the centre of the current dubstep explosion. Their energetic mix of grime, bassline and dubstep has won them international fans following tours in America, Belgium, Sweden, Holland and Croatia. With “Get Up” they demonstrate their commitment to dubstep that is heavy, full of bass and cutting-edge.

 

RSD, one half of legendary duo Smith and Mighty, has been making waves in the UK bass scene since the 1980’s. Considered pioneers of the dubstep scene, Smith and Mighty were never ones to shy away from experimenting with dub, reggae and drum’n’bass. RSD’s solo work is regarded as being just as significant and he has released on well respected labels such as Punch-Drunk, Earwax and Tectonic. His contribution to “Get Up” is deep, energetic and driven by a trademark, chest-rattling RSD bass line.

 

Alpha Steppa, child protégé of Alpha and Omega, debuted in 2010 with a bang. His label, Steppas Records began in style, offering up fresh dubs and soundsystem mixes by his mentors, as well as one of the final releases by titan of the reggae scene, the late Gregory Isaacs. Alpha Steppa produces dubstep that is aware of its roots heritage and works to integrate that into some of the most innovative dubs being made today. Currently based in Eastern Asia, he has begun integrating an authentic oriental sound into the UK dubstep vibe. This ground-breaking style can be seen clearly in the two tracks he has contributed to the “Get Up” EP – a deep, sub-heavy remix offset by a crisp version with a heavy UK dub vibe.

Check out this awesome track which merges Korean influences with dub in a 21st century style. I guess you could call it dubstep, but i think its broader than that! Watch it full screen and full volume and crank up the bass.  
 

This is the best video i have done, thanks to the cooperation of Doo and Ben, who i met in my favourite car park in Bristol for a couple of hours*  
 

Featuring Doo with a cameo from Ben who is alpha steppa. The location had some really nice green lights, lovely orange posts and the metal lifts which added to the ambience of the video.  
 

And after hearing this track a 100 times or more i still love it.

Alpha Steppa Meets the legendary dubstep producer RSD. The Bristol bass vanguard also known as Rob Smith (one half of respected dub duo Smith and Mighty), has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for over two decades. Since the late 1980s, Smith & Mighty played a huge part in the evolution of UK bass music. Thanks to their experiments in dub, reggae, drum’n'bass and beyond they are widely regarded as part of the pioneering force behind dubstep. RSD’s sound is an integral part of the dubstep scene which has earned him releases on respected labels including Punch Drunk, Earwax and Tectonic. In 2010 Alpha Steppa, the son and nephew of uk-dub heavyweights Alpha & Omega released his debut on Steppas Records, the well-received release featured two of his own productions backed with dub remixes of both tracks from Alpha & Omega. In early 2011 Alpha Steppa went on to release an EP featuring the late great Gregory Isaacs, one of the most talented reggae artists of all time. This new and crucial Steppas release features two heavyweight Alpha Steppa dubs accompanied by RSD remixes ready to rattle even the toughest of chestplates. Hailing from Korea, and in true Alpha Steppa style the release maintains an authentic oriental vibe fused with the sounds of his dub heritage, filtered through an exploration of the newer sounds of dubstep.
