Alpha & Omega are titans of British Dub, and have played a crucial role in its development both locally and internationally. They have worked with every major industry icon and have been putting out albums at a consistent rate since the late ‘80s. Prolific and well-respected by critics and fans alike, they have an almost prodigious talent for choosing musical collaborators who work seamlessly with their unique Brit-Dub sound. Alpha Steppa, child protégé of Alpha & Omega, debuted in 2010 with a bang. His label, Steppas Records began in style, offering up fresh dubs and soundsystem mixes by his mentors, as well as one of the final releases by titan of the reggae scene, the late Gregory Isaacs. Alpha Steppa produces dubstep that is aware of its roots heritage and works to integrate that into some of the most innovative dubs being made today. Currently based in Eastern Asia, he has begun integrating an authentic oriental sound into the UK dubstep vibe. With 'Highest Grade' he brings you his third collaborative effort with Alpha & Omega. Flex Zagazzow was first introduced to the world of Jamaican dancehall as a youth growing up in the ghettos of Clarendon, Jamaica Under the wing of great reggae artists, such as Cocoa Tea, Freddy McGregor, and Everton Blender. By the age of 17, Flex Zagazzow was already singing with the top Jamaican Sound Systems such as African Roots. Inspired by these influences, a dream was born to pursue his career as an international singer and MC. Flex Zagazzow is a professional Reggae artist who has been chanting on the microphone and entertaining music lovers with skills developed in his homeland of Jamaica for the past 20 years.

12" Alpha Steppa Meets RSD Rob Smith [+ FREE DOWNLOADS]

Alpha Steppa Meets the legendary dubstep producer RSD. The Bristol bass vanguard also known as Rob Smith (one half of respected dub duo Smith and Mighty), has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for over two decades. Since the late 1980s, Smith & Mighty played a huge part in the evolution of UK bass music. Thanks to their experiments in dub, reggae, drum’n’bass and beyond they are widely regarded as part of the pioneering force behind dubstep. RSD’s sound is an integral part of the dubstep scene which has earned him releases on respected labels including Punch Drunk, Earwax and Tectonic. In 2010 Alpha Steppa, the son and nephew of uk-dub heavyweights Alpha & Omega released his debut on Steppas Records, the well-received release featured two of his own productions backed with dub remixes of both tracks from Alpha & Omega. In early 2011 Alpha Steppa went on to release an EP featuring the late great Gregory Isaacs, one of the most talented reggae artists of all time. This new and crucial Steppas release features two heavyweight Alpha Steppa dubs accompanied by RSD remixes ready to rattle even the toughest of chestplates. Hailing from Korea, and in true Alpha Steppa style the release maintains an authentic oriental vibe fused with the sounds of his dub heritage, filtered through an exploration of the newer sounds of dubstep. 12" Alpha Steppa Meets JahYu [+ FREE DOWNLOADS]

‘Alpha Steppa Meets JahYu’ is the the latest EP from Steppas, bringing together the very best of East and West roots and dubstep. Produced in Korea, the record features heavy bass working seamlessly with traditional instruments. Oriental flute and string melodies slide effortlessly amongst some powerful roots-based dubstep, creating a sound that is unique and full of flavour. German/ Korean producer JahYu has been heavily influenced by major UK dub artists such as Iration Steppas, Jah Shaka, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and of course Alpha & Omega, which makes this collaboration a perfect fit. “Who would have thought that? The old Greeks already used turntables. As the cover artwork from “Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear” proves, no one else than the great Sokrates, Plato and Aristotle invented the turntable. The original stone mosaic shows the custom-made machine which always caused discussions between Sokrates and his wife Xanthippe. She always complained about the “snake” which actually is a microphone as archaelogists later found out” …

"Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear" makes me really pensive because I wonder what the title means. Why have these poor animals to be trampled. Trampled down maybe? Or is Trample the name of the Eagle. It sounds like a nice name to me. Anyway, I think they only want to irk the critics because they have to write down such a long title like "Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear".

But seriously. I am happy to see a full vinyl album with a real cover. It is so much nicer than a 10". And here, we have a full 22 minutes per side. It seems that they put all their energy in finding a long title like "Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear" and then were too exhausted to take off the last two track names from the vinyl cover. ;-)

But I know how the other 14 tracks sound. And you know what? I won't tell you! No, you read right. I won't tell a word because you have to hear by yourself. It's your own fault if you miss this brillant album. Alpha & Omega simply rule. Fully heartcore UK dub style without a compromise. Every measure and every bass drum hit is a boom boom boom.

For me, this sets high standard for the year 2005. All other releases will have a tough stand against this dub masterpiece. Sokrates would have been proud to play this LP on his home stereo.

P. S. Please check "Selassie I" featuring Reuben Master. Turn on the volume and bass as much as possible. This is IT. Everything that I am praising here on my website since 1998, put in one song!!!!!
