U:1 Film Night

U:1 STUDIOS have decided to create an evening for you, where we bring long some of our favourite short films, chill out, have some drinks and some food and induldge in some classic film moments. Please feel free to bring along any films that you would like to show, try and keep them to around half an hour so we can show a few for the evening. So bring a bottle and join in some film fun!

U:1 SpArts Day

As Part of Alias' 10 year anniversary celebrations Alias Arts U:1 Studios were commissioned to partake in their 'Art Camp' in the heart of the cotswolds, (near Stroud Valley artspace). For this we programmed a sports day with an arty twist, from a 'paint' the egg and spoon race to a 3 legged drawing race, we successfully entertained the whole camp who were thrilled with the fun to be had at our event. As part of this event we commissioned our first artist, David G Johns who took part by performing an entertaining act as our Compere for the day, dressed in sports gear we overemphasized the Branding of the event as a reflection on the commercialization of the upcoming Cultural Olympiad. Participants were awarded medals and certificates as prizes for taking part.

"Today we held an Art Picnic on Plymouth Hoe. The sun shone, we had tea and scones, and created some interesting collaborative artworks. Altogether a successful event. See the video for Ben's contribution - a vintage gramaphone, to make the atmosphere perfect!"

U:1 2009

We have recently changed in several ways. We have new artists working with us, bringing a wider variety of talents to the group, and we have moved from our old (cold) premises to Plymouth Arts Centre, where we will temporarily stay until we secure a permanent space within the city.

We intend to retain the tradition of holding an open evening once a month, currently (thanks to their support) in the Arts Centre. In the past these events have proven to be highly successful and popular, showcasing a variety of talented local artists work ranging from portraiture and graffiti to abstract paintings and experimental multimedia installations. These evenings are free entry and open to anyone to attend. They provide a relaxing atmosphere, which brings people together to chat about art, exchange ideas, and get involved in the project. Work is always available for purchase. Please see our notice board for dates of our next events.

U:1 Opening Night

The debut Open Studio Party held on Saturday 10th May was a real success with over 60 people attending during the evening. There was a general feeling of the start of something new in Plymouth’s art world. Something alternative and exciting... It was great to see familiar faces and some old friends as well as welcoming and making many new ones. The artists wanted to thank everyone who came to support the opening and for making it such a good night. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in the warm and relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of refreshments and interesting works. Several art sales were made and commissions for new works were arranged. It was a positive beginning for this project and hopefully many more preview parties to come – plus the possibility of some live music or DJs in the future.
